There is only one company making pinball machines today, and that is Stern. Therefore, if you want any machine that they don’t make you’ll have to look into used pinball machines. Don’t despair, though – there are many fine used pinball machines out there, and some of them have been refurbished so they’re like new.
Where can I go to buy used pinball machines?
You’re going to want to look in your own city first, since you’ll be able to play the machine and won’t have to pay for shipping. However, if you do find one locally you’re probably going to have to do some work on it to get it working properly. That’s not a bad thing – you’re going to have to know how to do that stuff anyway. Pinball machines have lots of moving parts and are in constant need of “shopping” or tuning up. A couple of good places to search locally are in your newspaper’s want ads and on Craig’s list.
You can look on google for new and used pinball machines, and can find quite a few sites. When I did this search I noticed that there are many different kinds of sites – ones that are very professional with lots of pictures and even some with videos, ones that are very unprofessional, and everything in between.
Make sure your search around the web turns up a reputable seller. You’re going to be spending quite a bit of money on your used pinball machine, and you want to make sure you don’t get taken. One way to avoid this is by shopping on Ebay. I’ve bought a couple of pinballs there myself and have had good success. With their rating system and strict controls, Ebay can be a very safe place to buy a used pinball machine.
Another good reason to use Ebay is youre going to be able to get a fair price, since its an auction site. I noticed one cool site that had a lot of really nice machines, but I thought the prices were kind of high. At Ebay, there is a lot of competition, so youre free to take the best price.
